It still holds true that man is most uniquely human when he turns obstacles into opportunities.

Build the base and size of your HS Swimming Team. Make sure the middle and the bottom of the Team are well-coached and have the opportunity to grow and feel valuable as a member of the Team. One never knows when their day of opportunity may come, or how soon.
HS Swimming should be considered a true "Team" Sport! Any one swimmer may graduate, get sick, get hurt away from the pool, become disenchanted with the expectation that they should work hard, move away, or just plain give up. In each of those cases, if the "Team" has been well-coached and well-cared for, the loss of one swimmer can open the door of opportunity for another swimmer to step up and grow, as a valuable member of the "Team".
No absolute promises can be made by the coach, but preparing the 2nd and 3rd-line swimmers for opportunity and encouraging them to accept the challenge when that opportunity arises, is the hallmark of good "Team" mentoring and coaching.
