In Case You Missed It

This was a big story on the trail last year.

via Portland Press-Herald

A woman - Geraldine Largay (66) - had disappeared back in 2013 up in Maine.  Searches had turned up no trace.  An episode of North Woods Law included her story and the search for her.

Geraldine's remains were discovered in October of last year - more than two years after she'd gone missing.  Seems she'd become lost and was unable to find her way back to the trail.

A Boston Globe article reveals she'd kept a journal while lost.  She'd survived nearly a month in some of our country's most rugged territory.

“This is some of the worst country in Maine,” Palman said. “It’s hard to understand how logistically difficult this area was. On any given day, by the time a searcher would get close to where Largay was found, they’d have to turn around to make it back to their vehicles by nightfall.”

Tragic.  If only she'd have been able to get a good signal fire going...

Syracuse AD Leaving

via USA Today

Syracuse AD Mark Coyle is leaving.  You know the routine.  They start out with the old "One team, one family, one vision" bit.  They close it out with a "spend more time with family" - type exit statement.

In other words, "One team, one family, one vision, one year."

He took over for Daryl Gross Negligence back in June of '15.  Read more here

via USA Today

Article was written by Chris Carlson, the same guy whose fictional account of Orange athletics set me off back in January of last year.  Read that post here

Carlson continues to repeat this lie:

Gross oversaw dramatic improvement of SU's non-revenue teams and on-field success...

Bullcorn!  The only "revenue" sport at Syracuse is men's thump-thump.  Every other sport costs more than it generates.

Many "non-revenue" sports suffered during the Gross era.   He destroyed the men's and women's swimming programs.

Gross replaced swimming with a women's hockey team that blows through a nearly seven-figure budget annually, while playing to home crowds numbering in the dozens.

Knowing his definition of success, one has to wonder if Carlson still thinks Enron would be a great investment...

Site Issues, Jobs, & Virtual Standings

TISCA site's been down a while.  Ron says the hosting service closed up shop w/o letting anyone know.  Look for an updated site soon, possibly in a few days.

A source clued me in on another kind of site issue.  Let's start off by saying Bobby swam for their program before we moved to Mansfield and we were fortunate to be part of their team - he made his first TAGS cut w/them.

Seems Aquastar was touting themselves as a USA Swimming 2016 Bronze Medal program.  Looks like they really aren't.
