The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

Yes, the media should report on coaches who victimize their athletes. It's tragic and these stories need to be told. I just wish some writers didn't seem so danged happy about it...

Crowded warm-ups can be dangerous. To improve safety, let's issue suits to "moving roadblocks" with this on the back:

Is that street called Saving Place Dr. because of the United Methodist Church on one corner or the Wal-Mart on another.

The City of Rowlett needs an athletics/aquatics supervisor. Info is here.

Liberals had some fun doctoring faces of conservatives like Gov. Perry:

Hahaha! Good one! See more here.

Now it's time for a reality check, America. Happy y'all elected these clowns?

Looks like the joke's on all of us...

Coach/official hospitality at the North TISCA meet was excellent! Outside, there was a meet going on. Results are here.

Still holding out hope for a coaches' poll. The core group we figured to hear from responded, but that still leaves us a few short of ten coaches to do both 4A & 5A polls. Thanks to all who are "in", but unless we get a few more, it won't happen here. If you can help out - and haven't contacted me by comment or email yet - please let me know ASAP. Comment below or send an email.

TISCA fared much better than NISCA and ASCA in the "does membership meet your needs?" poll. Nearly two-thirds responded (65%) with at least "sometimes".

26% - Absolutely!
23% - Most of the time.
19% - Rarely.
16% - Sometimes.
13% - What's TISCA?
3% - Never.

If working toward a 4A division was a big factor in my receiving a lifetime achievement award, didn't we miss a couple? Two coaches who were instrumental in making the 4A state meet a reality are Patrick Henry and Matt Schneider. TISCA should be asking them for their ring sizes.

I didn't get to attend TISCA this year, but looking at your posted results, I have but one question..... When is someone going to make Southlake split into two schools?

We are sorry that "anonymous" did not have the opportunity to attend the Noth Tisca Meet this year.
It was a very fast and exciting meet.

Southlake only has 2400 students in the 9th to 12th grades. Making it one of the smaller 5A school in Texas. The Carroll ISD student population is, currently, going down, not up. In addition, the total school population in Carroll ISD is less than 8000 students, but over 700 kids from 1st to 12th grades are involved in competitive swimming at some level, year-round or summer-league. Our base number of potential swimmers is large and enthusiasm is high for swimming, even though swimming is not a major sport in in Southlake, in comparison to Football.

The Carroll HS Program has grown from 55 swimmers, 7 yrs ago to over 130 swimmers today.
The growth of the HS Program at Carroll, in both numbers and quality, is reflective of the leadership in the HS Program and the cooperativeness of the "club" and HS Coaching Staffs to make all decisions based on what is best for the swimmers.
Good kids, good parents, good program design, good coaching, and the blessing of God, equals great swimming. The success of our Southlake Carroll HS Cross Country Teams (double State 5A Champions this year) is also reflective of the HS Program, its leadership and the Southlake kids and Community.

The success of the Carroll HS Swim/Dive Program is not based on the size of the school, rather it is based on the cooperative programming and the dedication of the swimmers and divers in Southlake.
The gradual rise in performance in HS Swimming in Southlake has been a 6.5 yr effort to build the best HS Swim Program in Texas. The "vision" and the design has been intentional, with a few "bumps" along the road, just as in any place.
The "intention" is to continue to stay humble and strive to serve the HS swimmers in Southlake to give them the best opportunities possible to excel and enjoy the process and the experience of Texas HS Swimming. The best and most exciting HS Swimming in the United States!

The North Tisca Meet format allows any Team to place both "A" and "B" relays in the meet, along with no limits on the number of individual entries in each event. That format has the potential to "skew" the results in favor of a Team with great depth.

At the end of the season, at Districts and Regionals and State, only "A" relays are allowed, just as only 4 entries per Team in each individual event are allowed.
The playing field is level, it is the program design and the commitment of the swimmers and parents, that make the difference in the results at Southlake Carroll HS.

We have full respect for our competition, and will continue to strive to be our very best, based on our own personal time goals. At Southlake Carroll, "the Team sets the standard and the individual strives toward Team goals and along the way gets to enjoy individual success, as an extension of the power of the TEAM."

I am sure that Southlake will "split" when the Carroll ISD population rises to the level required by the UIL for such a split. Our performance and our depth and the hard work of our coaches and swimmers, should not be the standard that ("MAKES" Southlake Carroll split into two schools.)

Respectfully,
Kevin Murphy
Head Swim Coach
Southlake Carroll HS
