Irving ISD Aquatics at a Crossroads

The troubling headline says it all:

Irving's First Indoor Swimming Pool Circles the Drain

Three decades after it opened, Irving’s first indoor pool has chips in the walls, cracks in the deck and yellow spots on the white dome roof.

But the North Lake Aquatic Center also has clear water and Olympic-length lanes. And the city and school district still have no better place to hold daily lessons, classes and competitions.

They may soon need one. Tired of paying upkeep and repairs for a rundown pool it hardly uses, North Lake College will begin to phase the structure out after 2014.

The pool’s main customers, the city and Irving ISD, will have to pay to take over the natatorium if they want to keep using it. And they’ll need to find somewhere else to swim by 2020, when North Lake plans to drain the pool for good.

The bubble-roofed box opened on campus to much fanfare in 1985 — a partnership between North Lake, the city and the school district.

Finally, Irving had a competitive-class pool, and the school district swim team didn’t need to shiver through winter practice outside the YMCA.

What does "Texas Edition" really mean?

Truck I just purchased is a "Texas Edition" Ford F-150.  Since I'd never paid attention to what that means, I checked out a Ford forum where folks were discussing that very issue.

My favorite response to the question was from 20F15010, who wrote:

I thought the Texas Edition gave you the abilty to cross three lanes of traffic without looking. Run any red light or stop sign in your path. Drive at least 15 mph over the speed limit. And the ability to put your rubber boots upside down between the cab and bed.

Miami deserves the death penalty for caving to the Title Ninestas and dropping their award winning Men's swimming and Diving Program. To hell with the BS football crap, the NCAA needs to take back control of all sports and enforce the spirit of title IX, equal opportunity for all instead of a quota system in which those interested in sport are not afforded an opportunity to play. Male enrollment in higher education is at an all time low and part of that is due the Clinton, Bush, Obama interpretation of Title IX requiring strict numerical quotas for athletic participation. Of course y'all have heard about it by now, right?  A Western Hills HS foosball parent claims the Aledo HS foosball coach bullied.

I have read on this site about a parent filing a bullying report on a school district for running up the score. I think it is very sad that it takes the action of a parent to bring the issue in the spotlight. Why hasnt the UIL been more pro-active on this matter? Where are our UIL officials, school administrators, and community leaders? We are making good strides in safety issues for kids on the field, now its time we take a step further. Those poor kids do not need to be humiliated like this. Should we not show mercy and compassion to our opponent?

I say BRAVO to the parent and BOO to the UIL!! It is high time that the UIL address this. There is a mercy rule in baseball and softball, as well as 6-man. Although most of my freshmen games would end a little early, I do feel bad for the opponent when they can not stop me. I would think that if a team is up by 28 at anytime during 1st half it should be an automatic running clock. If that team is still up by 28 at the half, there should be no 2nd half. A team is not capable of coming from behind by 28 pts. By that point, a team is so humiliated, that they should not have to endure any further embarrassment. I know alot of you cave dwellers will all try to be big and tough on this issue, but the fact is, children should not have to endure this kind of pain that may have lasting mental and emotional scars. We have come too far as a society. Its 2013,,wake up folks!! We should teach children the spirit of competition is the most important part, not killing their spirits and turning them off from wanting to participate and enjoy sports.

Lets all get on board and call the UIL so they will take action!! I am sorry for my ranting, but children and their emotional concerns should always be 1st on our list. Hope you guys have a great day and a great week.

Because of the restrictions created by Title IX, men are now unable to play in collegiate sports for which they are highly qualified. The necessity of equal funding for men's and women’s sports, paired with the inevitably massive funding that goes to football, prevents worthy men’s sports from being fully college-sponsored, funded and supported.

Thanks to proportionality, they no longer have a men's swim team...but they do have 128 players on the foosball roster...and 22 coaches to help out...
