Anyone who thinks swim coaches that actually expect their swimmers to WORK, and are therefore considered "mean", should rent and watch the movie "Whiplash" to see a really mean mentor/coach. Swimming is both a tough sport and an honest sport: "If you put in the work, something good will happen. If you don't do the work, there is no place to hide, you will be exposed.
