Unparalleled Success

Eddie Reese retirement dinner was fantastic!  Thanks to DJA for letting me tag along!

Left to Right:  Ian Carbone, Madison Wenzler, Patrick Murphy, & Bobby Button

One of my "Eddie stories":

Dana Abbott and I were watching an Orange/White meet when Cole Cragin was disqualified for a 15m violation.

I turned to Dana and said "I wish one of my kids could get DQ'ed for going too far underwater."

Eddie looked at me and said "Well, that's on you, coach."

Ouch!!! He was absolutely correct - it was on me.

So, that Timberview HS team worked on underwater dolphin kicking more than any group I'd ever coached.

A guy named Henry Isobi ended up breaking Bobby's school record in the 100 butterfly that year - and it was because he was great underwater!

What the heck?

Yesterday's post on TISCA All-State Lists made me wonder about who might be upset if they'd been denied their TISCA All-State First Team ranking, so I looked at the TAPPS boys' 400 free relay, where HCYA is #1.

Would CHSM be disappointed that they'd been bumped down to Second Team by a homeschool group?

No, I doubt Christian Homeschool Sports Ministries will mind...

HOW DID WE GET HERE?!?!?!

If you youngsters are okay with the direction our organizations is heading, just sit back and let a handful of your peers decide for you.

If y'all don't like what's happening in TISCA, it's time to find enough of your fellow member coaches to chart a different course.

TISCA All-State Lists

Preliminary TISCA All-State lists are here

Please look at the TAPPS list and explain:

Why are athletes from Homeschool Christian Youth Association (HCYA) included?

This is not a school!

Rather, it's an athletic organization for kids who attend neither public nor private schools.

I'm all for folks who want to educate their children at home.  If public or private schools don't work for your child, that's an option for y'all.

We strive to provide a "level playing field" for our student/athletes, right?

It's increasingly "out of level" in recent years, isn't it?*

Do you support placing athletes in our All-State lists that don't attend a school?

If yes, would you feel the same if your athlete lost a spot on those lists?

Should HCYA athletes be included on our Academic All-State list?**

*Have you noticed that charter schools are dominating some UIL sports?  How about the guy who won a state championship in girls rasslin'?

**Before you answer that, recall that these kids' grades are determined by their parents...

Bowman to Texas OFF!!!

After what many say was the greatest aquatics April Fools' joke of all time, legendary University of Texas men's head swim coach Eddie Reese has admitted that no, he will not be retiring after all!

UT and Arizona State University put together an elaborate hoax today, claiming that ASU head coach Bob Bowman would take the reins in Austin, leaving assistant Herbie Behm to take over in Tempe.

Bowman stated "Herbie really played along with it well.  The guy acted as if he was actually taking over the program.  Our SID let him in on the joke yesterday...at least I think he did..."

Reese, known to be a man of few words, responded to an inquiry from SwimScam with "JK, JK!"
