Just found out Emmett Hines has passed (thanks for the info, DJA).
Emmett helped me with my first coaching gig, at HISD's Jackson MS. I'd found an old plywood pace clock at the school and he found us a new motor for it. That winter, he loaned us some lane ropes from the old UH outdoor pool.
So sorry to hear of his passing.

Condolences to Emmett Hines' family. I loved his column in Texas Runner and Triathlete. Truly the only guy who made swimming make sense to a lot of us.
