How does spending on college sports...

...impact an athlete's academic performance?

This may sound ultra-booooooooooooring (because it is), but it's important.

Lousy grades by scholarship athletes can cost athletic programs dearly. Schools lose scholarships when their athletes underperform in the classroom.

Does it prove a cause/effect relationship? Probably not, as there are many other variables involved here. Still, it's interesting reading if you...if you don't have anything better to do...
