Thanks to all who responded to Harvey Help for DJA.  DJA's home sustained tens of thousands of dollars in damage due to Harvey.  Flood insurance?  No, and I doubt anyone in his neighborhood had any, either.  First time they've ever even come close to flooding.  Efforts to help him start on the recovery effort are nearly halfway to their goal.  Please help here

Harvey Help for DJA (Edited 9/6, 6:30 a.m.)

Adding street view video:

Via Go Fund Me:

Hurricane Harvey hit the Houston area very hard in the last week of August 2017. Thousands of homes have been damaged by the flood waters caused by this storm when it dumped around 50 inches of rain in only a few days.

Coach Abbott's home was directly affected by this storm. Over the last few days, friends, families and SJ23 swim team members have been working hard to remove the wet and damaged items from Coach's home and clean up the mess that Hurricane Harvey left behind. However, removal of the debris is only half of the battle. The funds raised here will be given directly to Coach Abbott on the behalf of all of those who donated and the SJ23 swim team, so that he may rebuild and repair his home.

Thanks in advance for your generous contributions to DJA's fund.

His St. John XXIII swim team set this up, but I'm hoping all his former high school (Katy HS) and club (Western Horizon, KATY, Katy Tigers, etc.) swimmers/parents will join in the effort.

We'd also like to see TISCA & NISCA members (past & present) help out as well.  Dana was an outstanding president of each organization.

Again, thanks in advance for your support!

Link to this article was in last week's Volume 35:

Coddling kids is killing sports

There are three points to this column that I’m trying to get across.

1.) Be realistic about your child’s ability and adjust your expectations.

2.) Be firm with your child about their actions.

3.) Don’t blame the coach.

If you believe your child is the best, even when they aren’t, if you pamper your child when they don’t get their way, and/or you constantly place blame on coaches, you are only setting them up for failure.
