Misc. III

First, a list of real time results for all those meets you might not be able to attend today:

Southeast Conference (College Station)

Mountain West (San Antonio)

Conference USA (Houston)

UIL 4A State (Austin)

UIL 5A State (Austin)

Next, a little politics.  For a simple guy like me, it's tough to understand how folks in the federal government can't make budget cuts work.

We just went through a couple of tough years here in Texas when the state - and then local school districts - had to make big adjustments to education budgets.

Guess what?  We're still in business!

You simply prioritize.  Some things you can't do without, so you try to protect those parts of the budget from cuts.  Elsewhere, you decide you can do with less (or even without!).

Read what Cal Thomas has to say about Obama's bluff, a.k.a. sequestration, here.

Last Sunday's New York Times was a kind of preview of Mr. Obama's remarks. An editorial running more than half the page offered a litany of gloom and doom if Republicans forced the administration to start behaving more responsibly with our money.

It's about time for anyone in Washington with a backbone - and a lick of common sense - to call the president's bluff.

How about we get back to swimming, you say?  Record breakers interest y'all?

Breeja Larson shaved another tenth off her short course 100 breast records last night in College Station.  She went :57.43.  Vol Holly Hannis actually led for 50 yards before Larson took off.

Madisyn Cox did some damage yesterday in Austin.

Cox took down two of the four 4A records that fell in yesterday's preliminary session at the UIL state meet in Austin:

Girls' 200 medley relay - Highland Park, 1:47.68
Girls' 200 individual medley - Madisyn Cox, Lubbock, 1:59.77
Boys' 200 individual medley - Michael Miller, Stratford, 1:48.98
Girls' 100 breast - Madisyn Cox, Lubbock, 1:03.13

On the 5A side, all sixteen (16) boys' 400 free relays crushed the national record!  Go see fer yerself!

Enough swimmin'?  Y'all want more politics?  Okay, last one.

About a year ago, Cleburne ISD was in the news over a school bored member that just couldn't control hisself online.  Seems he went a bashin' away at the athletic director and got caught at it.  Catch up here.

Them folks is back in the news again!  Current Cleburne foosball coach Jeff Merket submitted his resignation Wednesday, but won't say why.  Superintendent Tim Miller can't bear to see Merket go, so he's not acceptin' the quittin' and is instead investigatin' what led up to Merket tryin' to walk out.  Read more here.

Miller said he refused to accept Merket’s resignation and asked the coach to give him a week to investigate and, if necessary, find a resolution by next Wednesday’s board meeting.

Any chance - any at all - that this year's mess ties in with last year's?

“I want it to be resolved and I wasn’t looking for drama, I was serious about resigning,” Merket said.
