What interested me was what if Cal had pulled the switcheroo and taken 1st with UT 2nd? Same thing as 1980 (30 yrs ago for the math-challenged; the Horns jumped from a tie for 21st in 1979 to 2nd 1 year later). And with Scott Spann on the UT team both times, 1980 the father, 2010 the son. Senior was also a transfer from his first school (Auburn to Texas), Jr. from Michigan. Same coaches, too. Almost. Eddie and Kris (and some FABULOUS assistants, lol!) at Texas, and Nort is still at Cal as an assistant (Durden wasn't even in junior high on his way to Jersey Village yet).
I remember photographing the tower the FIRST time with all the guys (S/W cover, still have it), then having to lead Gary Schatz home from Austin with my headlights because his generator had died and we were cruising down I-10 headed home with his blackout-mobile. Almost home. Pulled over in Sealy, the extremists!
May have to write a book about those first two years of the Reese Dynasty! And as Deer Slayer knows, there ARE some stories! ;-)

You know the Paul Harvey (the rest of the story), would make a great book. You may have to change some names to protect the innocent. jk Between snakes, hide and go seek games, fishing, halloween parties, basketball games with unique uniforms, and more, you could write more than one book. Kinda like the Junction Gang from the Bear. Back then and now, they had to do a great job to win, and they did. Cal was tough, diving was huge.
